The Selma Police Department is still working to identify who shot and killed a 25-year-old Selma man in late December.
Frederick Harris was shot and killed in the 300 block of Broad Street around 11:45 p.m. on Dec. 26.
“We’re still trying to get leads and hope that someone will come forward and give us some information about what happened to the victim,” said Sgt. Evelyn Ghant, Selma’s Criminal Investigation Division field supervisor.
Officers responded to the scene last month, but before they could get there, Harris had been taken to Vaughan Regional Medical Center’s emergency room by private vehicle, according to Lt. Curtis Muhannad, head of Selma’s Criminal Investigation Division.
“The victim was seen walking south on the 300 block of Broad Street by passersby who stopped when they saw him collapse,” Muhannad said in December. “The first citizen to stop called E911. [The] second citizen that stopped knew the victim and placed him in their vehicle and transported him to the ER.”
Harris was unconscious when he arrived at the hospital with a gunshot wound to his upper left torso, according to authorities. He was later pronounced dead.
The Selma Police Department is asking anyone with information concerning the investigation to notify Crime Stoppers at (334) 874-2588 or toll-free at 1-866-442-7463.
The call will be confidential, and anyone who shares information that leads to an arrest could receive a cash reward up to $1,000.
