David Alexander Martin, 63, passed away at his home peacefully on the morning of Dec. 25, 2014.
David was preceded in death by his parents Philip David and Jean Thompson Martin, of Selma. He is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 34 years, Lori Cvetetic Martin. David is also going to be sorely missed by three wonderful sons, Alec (Holly) Martin of Prattville; (and soon-to-be first grandchild, Isabella); Nick Martin of Birmingham; and John (Jenna) Martin of Auburn. In addition, David is survived by his brother Russell Martin, of Akron and his sister Lisa (Mark) Ingram, of Memphis, Tenn.
David recently celebrated his 40th anniversary with his employer, CH2MHILL. He began his career in the laboratory washing glassware and eventually worked his way up to air quality/technical manager. Those who were lucky enough to know and spend time with David would absolutely confirm his strong work ethic and integrity. David loved sports, was an excellent athlete and passed on his athletic genes to all three of his sons. He was their greatest coach and most enthusiastic sideline fan. Along with sports, David’s other passion was music. He loved to sing and play guitar, and he often shared his beautiful voice with friends and family.
David “lived” with both multiple myeloma and colon cancer for many years, yet somehow managed to still enjoy life to the fullest. During this time, he was the facilitator of the Montgomery Myeloma Support Group. Regardless of how he felt, David never missed a meeting. The family of David Martin wishes to thank the Montgomery Cancer Center, especially Dr. John Reardon and all of the treatment nurses, for their encouragement and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the International Myeloma Foundation (www.myeloma.org) or the Cancer Wellness Foundation of Central Alabama (www.cancerwellnessfoundation.org). A memorial service will be held Monday, Dec. 29 at Southern Memorial Funeral Home & Crematorium (www.southernmemorialfuneral.com) at 12 p.m. with visitation from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.
We miss you Dad but know your pain and suffering are over so now you can rest in peace.
