A Selma man is facing felony charges of murder and abuse of a corpse following the April death of a 60-year-old woman.
Larry George Peterson Jr., 31, was arrested on Friday, Dec. 5 on grand jury indictments.
The arrest stemmed from a death investigation that started on April 23, according to the Selma Police Department.
“A black female in her 60s was found on the 2400 block of West Drive deceased on a porch,” said Lt. Curtis Muhannad. “When officers arrived on scene, they found the victim inside her residence.”
Paramedics responded but they were unable to revive the woman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Muhannad said an investigation conducted by the Selma Police Department’s Major Crimes Detectives revealed the woman was allegedly brought to her home from a house owned by Peterson after she died.
“After being arrested, Mr. Peterson refused to speak with officers concerning the case,” Muhannad said. “He was booked, processed and transported to the Dallas County Jail with a bond totaling $1 million.”
Muhannad said Peterson could be facing 10 years to life in prison for the murder charge. Peterson could also get an additional one to 10 years in prison for the abuse of a corpse charge as well as fines for both felonies.
Muhannad said the case remains under investigation and more arrests could be made.
