Tickets still available for Pearl visit

Like the fast-paced speed he likes his team to play, the time frame to buy a ticket to hear Auburn men’s basketball coach Bruce Pearl speak is racing by.

Pearl will speak at the Selma Quarterback Club Dec. 8 at the Carl C. Morgan Convention Center. Pearl’s appearance will come right in the middle of basketball season during a nine-day break the Tigers will have between games against Coastal Carolina and Clemson.

“It’s an in-season situation, and Bruce Pearl has been the national coach of the year,” Quarterback Club board member W.Forrest Hatfield said. “We’ve got people who have bought tickets that are not members of the club coming just to hear him because they’ve heard him before somewhere and because he is just an entertaining speaker.”

Pearl won the Adolph Rupp National Coach of the Year award in 2008 and was the SEC coach of the year in 2006 and 2008 during his tenure at Tennessee. Pearl and the Tigers are off to a 3-2 start in his first season at the helm. Auburn’s two losses have come in a road game at Colorado and a neutral site game against Tulsa.

Pearl’s appearance will be the final meeting of the season.

Non-members can purchase tickets from First Cahawba Bank, Marion Bank & Trust Co. and Trustmark Bank. The price is $45 for an individual ticket and $80 for a couple. Pearl’s appearance is taking place on ladies night at the Quarterback Club, meaning members are allowed to bring their spouses, but like non-members they must have a ticket. A members’ lady friend or spouse ticket is $25.

Hatfield said all tickets have to be purchased in advance. Ticket sales will end Friday, Dec. 5, so that the club can tell the caterer how much food needs to be made. Bearden Catering will be providing steak for ladies night.

“They will need to have a ticket to get in,” Hatfield said. “They will not be able to buy them at the door because we have to plan meals and seating for the number of tickets we have.”
