The Dallas County Sherriff’s Department has gained custody of murder suspect Cedric Butler.

Selma Leashore Bail Bond brought the suspect to the department Wednesday, where he was arrested for murder after allegedly shooting and killing a 21-year-old Orrville man Saturday. Butler is in the Dallas County Jail under a $3 million bond as of Wednesday, according to District Attorney Michael Jackson

Deputies were dispatched to the 200 block of County Road 340 at approximately 9:45 a.m. Saturday, where they found Bruce Dawson with a single gunshot wound to the head, according to Sgt. Mike Granthum with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.

“Some neighbors said they heard people arguing and then heard a gunshot,” Granthum said.

The victim’s body was taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences in Montgomery for an autopsy.

Jackson said Butler is the same individual currently facing first-degree assault charges after allegedly shooting a man in the lower torso in 2013.

The suspect was issued a $500,000 bond and released after making the bond in 2013, Jackson said.

A motion to revoke Butler’s $500,000 bond was filed Wednesday, Jackson said.

The revocation and bond hearing will be addressed during Butler’s court appearance Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Dallas County Courthouse.
