Ellwood Christian, Dallas County, Clarke County, Demopolis, Stanhope Elmore, Billingsley and Lee County will join the Saints in the varsity tournament. Selma, Dallas County, Demopolis and Billingsley will also have junior varsity squads in a JV tournament.

“I was a little leery last year first starting off but it went well,” Selma head coach Melissa White said of last year’s first annual tournament. “It went very smoothly and we used both gyms. It has actually grown this year.”

This year the tournament, which is officially titled the Selma High School Invitational Tournament, will once again utilize both of Selma’s gymnasiums. The junior varsity games will kickoff the event at 9 a.m., with the varsity games starting at 10 a.m. The junior varsity championship is scheduled to start at 12 p.m., while the varsity title game is scheduled for 4 p.m.

White said she’s interested to see how her team handles all the different looks it is sure to see from the other seven teams in the field.

“We have teams ranging from 1A to 6A so I want them to be exposed to the different levels of talent and be able to build off watching another team as well as being able to play,” White said.

Billingsley won the varsity tournament last year. Admissionis $5 per person.
