Emergency sirens set for monthly test Wednesday

The Selma-Dallas County Emergency Management Agency will conduct a monthly test of all sirens starting at 10 a.m. Wednesday.
Emergency sirens are placed in 19 locations throughout the county, including several within the city limits. Sirens may sound multiple times, but emergency management agency director Rhonda Abbott said multiple soundings would all be a part of the same test.
Emergency management tests the sirens audibly once per month and conducts a silent test every Friday.
Abbott said the tests are important to ensure every siren is working properly.
She said a lightning strike is one example of an incident that could disable a siren.
“We do appreciate the public letting us know if they don’t hear a siren during testing,” she said.
She said the emergency test will be conducted one day later than originally planned, but was moved to coincide with maintenance, also scheduled for Wednesday.
