Katherine Chester McCary

Katherine Chester McCary was born June 6, 1927 in Selma, AL and passed away May 24, 2014 in Tuscaloosa, AL.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Leonard McCary; parents, Michael Chester and Carrie Lee Carter Chester; sister, Virginia Aycock and brothers, Michael C. Chester, James Chester, Clarence C. Chester and Franklin Chester.

She is survived by her daughter, Lyn (Skip) Bussells of Tuscaloosa, AL; granddaughter, Reagan (Edward) Jhee of Alexandria, VA and great-granddaughters, Harper Frances and Alice Margaret and nieces and nephews that were so precious to her.

Mrs. McCary was a long time member of Valley Grande Baptist Church, the former Central Baptist, where she taught Children’s Sunday School for many decades leaving a long legacy of telling children about Jesus. She was a graduate of Albert G. Parrish High School, Class of 1946, and maintained many friendships throughout her life, After graduating she traveled by train to Los Angeles, CA to live and work. Returning to Selma, she was employed by the Selma Times-Journal as a bookkeeper and later was employed by the Dallas County Tax Collector’s office for many years.

Mama, we love you so very much and will miss you every day for the remainder of our days. We thank you for teaching us about the Lord and for loving us beyond measure.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at Valley Grande Baptist Church with Rev. Phillip Rush officiating. Visitation will be prior to the service at 9:30 a.m. Interment will be in New Live Oak Cemetery with Selma Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers will be Skip Bussells, Edward Jhee, Ken Henry, Gary Rush, Martin Neely and Clint Edwards.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Valley Grande Baptist Church Children’s Dept., 48 County Road 16, Valley Grande, AL, 36701.
