Mike Smith

Mike Smith, loving son of Sue long, resident of Titusville, FL passed away Wednesday, May 21, 2014.

Mike was an unusual man of character, known to be honest and quiet by acquaintances on the PGA Tour and respected by all. He graduated from Albert G. Parrish High School in Selma, AL.

Mike received a golf scholarship to Brevard College in Florida. After college he joined the PGA Tour and later the Senior Tour. After a short time on the European Tour Mike rejoined the PGA Tour to successfully continue his PGA career. He made his home in Titusville, FL, where he enjoyed playing and teaching golf.

Mike is survived by his wife, Monica; son, Christopher Smith and daughter, Payton Daniel Smith of Titusville, FL; beloved mother, Sue Long and husband Charles A. Long of Point Clear, AL; sister, Susan Wren Burns and husband Tommy; nieces, Amanda Calloway, Mary Susan Burns and nephew, Christopher Wren (Mandy) Burns

Survivors include his aunt Quida Ballard (Bob) Corr; cousins Marcia Ballard (Roland) Guyot, George (Terry) Ballard, Nan Ballard and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mike is preceded in death by a son, Curtis Bradford, grandparents, Christopher and Edna Ballard; great grandparents, George and Persia Cochran and a very special aunt, Helen (Ha-Ha) Cochran.

A graveside service will be Friday, May 23, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at New Live Oak Cemetery in Mike’s hometown, Selma, AL. with Tom McLemore, minister of the Church of Christ in Selma, AL and Bryant Evans, minister of Church of Christ of Daphne, AL officiating the service.

Pallbearers will be friends who grew up with Mike; Tommy Burns, Stanley Burns, Wren Burns, Roland Guyot, George Ballard, Ronnie Sherrer, Bo Redman, Dick Bradberry, Walter Green, Brian Britt and Josh Ellison.

Mike was a member of the Church of Christ. The family request in lieu of flowers please make memorial gifts to the American Cancer Society, Eastern Shore Church of Christ, Houston Park Church of Christ, Selma, AL., or the Church of Christ in Daphne, AL.
