Tipton Durant Middle School went into lockdown Tuesday after a student brought a cap gun to school.

Lt. Curtis Muhannad with the Selma Police Department said school officials notified the police after a 13-year-old student was found with the toy pistol.

The student has been suspended from school, and no charges will be filed against the student.

A cap gun is a toy gun that produces a loud gunshot sound by using small amounts of shock-sensitive explosive compounds.

Muhannad said cap guns do not fall into the same category as bombs.
