Meadowview Christian held its sports banquet Monday night at the Carl C. Morgan Convention Center and handed out more than 60 awards to Trojans’ athletes.
Individual awards were given out for football, baseball, softball, basketball and other sports at the banquet, which felt like a celebration of the entire year of Meadowview athletics.
Meadowview Christian athletic director Elyse McIntyre said it is important to reward the Trojans’ student athletes because they work as hard, or harder, than anyone at the school.
“They are student-athletes so not only do they have to keep up their grades but they have to get in late and then keep up their grades,” McIntyre said. “They have to listen to those coaches get on them all the time, me included, so for them to have a nice evening where they can get dressed up and be supported by parents in a different venue, it means a lot to the kids.”
Among the night’s biggest winners were Carstella Hayes, Claudia Kendrick, Mallory Freine, C.J. Grimes, Wesley Gunter.
All five athletes were awarded for their performance in more than one sport. Numerous other athletes were also recognized for their performances in various sports.
