The Dallas-Wilcox Bama Club will hold its scholarship banquet Thursday, May 15 at Church Street United Methodist Church in Selma.
The Bama Club will hand out eleven scholarships of $2,000 to the following students: Webster Ford Manderson, Morgan Academy; Nivory Gordon, Selma High School; Briana Jackson, Thomasville High School; Logan S. Cole, Morgan Academy; John Olinger, Morgan Academy; Karissa Smiley, Dallas County; John Edwin Robertson, Morgan Academy; Mary Taylor Peake; Morgan Academy, Tayler R. Ronnie Leet, president of the Dallas Wilcox Bama Club, said the criteria used to determine the scholarship recipients is extensive.
“We are guided by the National Alumni Association,” Leet said of the criteria. [The criteria includes] academics, character, outside activities — so it is not just grades alone.”
The speaker at the banquet will be Dr. Robert Witt, Chancellor of the University of Alabama school system, and former president of the University of Alabama.
Leet said those in attendance will also be able to ask Dr. Witt questions.
“I’m encouraging people to ask questions, like questions about the paying of student athletes and the unionization of student athletes,” Leet said. “This man knows answers to all of this stuff.”
The cost to attend is $25 for Dallas-Wilcox Bama Club members and $35 for non-members. Seating is limited for the event, which will start at 6 p.m. Anyone interested in attending can contact Leet at 875-2672.
