Melba Bowden Wells was born in Owassa, Alabama on December 29, 1929. She passed away surrounded by loved ones on May 2, 2014.

Visitation will be held at Lawrence Funeral Home on Sunday, May 4th from 1-2 pm, with graveside services to follow at 2:30 pm at New Live Oak. The Rev. Cory Horton will be officiating.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, William Hilton Wells; her parents, Mr. And Mrs. Cecil Bowden; her brother, Howard Bowden; and grandsons Joshua Hilton Wells and Zachary Kenneth Wells.

Survived by her children, Debra (Jack) Burnside, Sandra (Larry) Roe and Kenneth (Rebecca) Wells; grandchildren; Rachel (Keith) Colley, April (Chris) Norton, Dawn Burnside, Ryan Doering, Spence (Valerie) Roe, Anna (Brent) Benson, Beth (Jason) Gates and Matt (Rebecca) Roe; twenty-two great grandchildren; brothers, Alton (Linda) Bowden and Jerry Bowden and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pall bearers will be Keith Colley, Andy Harris, Keith Wells, Travis Johnson, Larry Roe and Brent Benson.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to AseraCare Hospice or Cahaba Mental Health. The family would also like to give sincere thanks to our Nana’s wonderful nurse, Amy, and aide, Samantha.
