Pinckney Alson Alsbrook, Jr.

Pinckney “P.A.” Alston Alsbrook, Jr., born to Pinckney Alston Alsbrook, Sr. and Blanche E. Alsbrook on November 23, 1920, passed from this life on Saturday, April 19, 2014.

P.A. retired from the United States Navy in 1960, after 20 years of faithful service to his country. His entire career was spent aboard aircraft carriers, and he served in the Pacific throughout the duration of World War II. After he retired from the Navy as an Aviation Ordnance Chief, he began AAA Construction Company here in Selma, and bought a small farm in Autauga County, where he raised approximately 30 head of cattle. He loved working and was a stickler for doing things correctly. He was also an avid fisherman and used his time in the Navy to hone his skills in both fresh and salt water. He loved fishing with the fly rod and was a firm believer in “catch and release”. He absolutely loved helping people and spending time with his grandson, Alston. He loved picking Alston up from elementary school and was always the first person in the carpool line each afternoon. P.A. loved teaching children about the outdoors, and had a spring in his backyard that provided an unlimited number of crawfish and mudpuppies for all the neighborhood children to catch. Anyone who knew P.A. knew that he lived his life to the fullest. The last few years of his life were spent fighting Alzheimer’s disease.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, James Russell Alsbrook and Edward Martin Alsbrook; sisters, Marie Alsbrook Elias and Earline Alsbrook Greene; nieces, Dorothy Alsbrook Pugh and Delores Alsbrook Criswell as well as his first wife, Georgia Nell Frith Alsbrook, who passed from this life on March 7, 1971 and his latter wife, Claudine Hicks Alsbrook, who passed away on April 23, 1979.

He is survived by his sons, Pinckney Alston “Buddy” Alsbrook III (Susan), Clayton Allen Alsbrook; grandson, Pinckney Alston Alsbrook IV; nephews, Rusty Alsbrook, Steve Criswell, Michael Greene, Boyd Pugh and Randy Pugh; niece, Paige Greene Suttles and special caregivers, Lee Ann Curry and Ashley Curry.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at New Live Oak Cemetery with Dr. Jerry Light officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you consider making memorial donations to an Alzheimer’s research foundation of your choice.
