A teenager is in jail for his role in a shooting last week at Hidden Acres trailer park.
Derell King, 17, 25-C MBA Homes, Selma, was arrested Saturday and charged with attempted murder for allegedly shooting another teenager twice. Dallas County sheriff’s deputy Mike Granthm said King will be tried as an adult because of the severe nature of the shooting.
The shooting occurred Wednesday, following a fight at Southside High School. Granthum said neither King nor the shooting victim participated in the Southside fight, but were involved in an altercation later that day at Hidden Acres Trailer Park.
The altercation at the trailer park began as a argument, concerning the Southside fight Granthum said. During the altercation, King allegedly pulled out a .38 caliber pistol and shot an unidentified victim in the shoulder and abdomen.
“Southside did a great job of breaking up the fight at the school and it ended without incident,” Granthum said. “It was once they got to the trailer park that they other argument started. Both the shooter and the victim were not involved in the Southside fight.”
The victim was airlifted to a Birmingham-area hospital and was in stable condition Monday afternoon, according to Granthum.
Following the incident, King admitted to being involved in the shooting.
Granthum said the sheriff’s department was unable to recover the pistol from the incident.
King remained in the Dallas County Jail without bond Monday. A bond hearing will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
