The Dallas County School System is now hiring.
The Dallas County Board revealed its plans to begin the hiring process for an assistant superintendent during Monday’s regularly scheduled meeting. During the meeting, Dallas County Superintendent of Education Don Willingham announced that the job opportunity for the position would be posted for the mandatory 2-week period starting Friday.
“Hopefully, we’ll have a recommendation to the board in April 2014,” Willingham said.
In July 2013, Dr. Fannie McKenzie stepped down as superintendent of Dallas County School System. The school board voted, four to one, in favor of naming Willingham the interim superintendent position the same same month.
He was previously the assistant superintendent.
In August 2013, Willingham was selected as the official superintendent of Dallas County Schools. Willingham’s job change to the head of Dallas County Schools created an open assistant superintendent position.
Willingham said he expects significant interest in the position.
He also said the start date for the new assistant superintendent depends on whether her or she is already employed in the Dallas County School system.
“If it’s somebody from within our system, it will be a workable situation. They can ease into the job as school ends,” Willingham said. “If it’s somebody from out of our system, we’re set June 1st or July 1st as the date.”
