The Selma City School board voted to adopt a new form of digital communication.

The school board unanimously voted in favor of Interim superintendent Larry DiChiara recommendation for the board to use an eBoard website service.

“We want to get eBoard on, so we can start doing our board meetings electronically and be able to effectively and prophetically communicate back and forth documents and so on, not have to duplicate as much and save a little bit of time and money there,” DiChiara said.

The eBoard web service was designed as an easy-to-use web 2.0 solution to support communication and collaboration and integrate technology into the classroom by utilizing links, photos, pod casts, streaming video, files, online discussions and calendar entries, according to the company’s website.

EBoard costs $2,954 for service from now until June, DiChiara said.

The cost of the service is estimated to be more than $6,000 for a full year of service, DiChiara said.

DiChiara said the convenience of the eBoard goes beyond eliminating the headaches of piles of documents for the board. He said it would also provide parents with access to items related to Selma City School board meetings.

“The beautiful thing about eBoard is it allows parents to pull up on the website what we recommended, what was approved and the attachments that go with those recommendations,” DiChiara said. “

DiChiara did not provided an exact date as to when the eBoard service would be available, but he said the sooner it was approved, the sooner the company could train the board how to operate it.

DiChiara also mentioned investing in repairs for school buildings without giving a detailed description about his plans.

Thursday’s night board meeting also included an update of the state intervention process and approval of some changes that come with it.

“The school district is doing some great things,” DiChiara said. “Although we are going to be honest about certain things that we are going to address and try to help so in the future we’ll have some internal controls in place.”
