An Autauga County man is in jail on murder charges after allegedly stabbing his father multiple times.

John Woods III, 35, 954 Autauga County Road 1, Selma, was arrested Friday on a charge of murder after allegedly stabbing his father John Lewis Woods following a verbal argument.

Autauga Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the County Road 1 residence after received a call from Woods III. Autauga County Sheriff’s Office Chief Deputy Joe Sedinger said Woods III was emotionally upset.

Deputies found the father lying on the floor with multiple stab wounds.

Sedinger said both men smelled strongly of alcohol and it likely played a part in the argument. The father was pronounced dead on the scene.

Woods III was immediately arrested and charged with murder.

He was being held in the Autauga Metro Jail Monday afternoon, on a bond of $150,000.
