We still need heroes, especially in today’s world

Coming on the heels of Black History Month, we sit here re-energized with the stories of amazing Americans, their accomplishments and their contributions to nation’s history.
It’s always important to celebrate the stories of George Washington Carver, Harriet Tubbs, Frederick Douglas and others.
The contributions they have made are often times beyond measure and continue to be felt today.
But, today’s world still needs heroes. It still needs people — of all colors — to step up and make a difference, not necessarily on the world stage, but right here at home, right here in Selma.
We need people, not those in elected office, to step up and make a difference and stand for what’s right, to stand for what this community could be and should be.
It’s important we always look back and celebrate the heroes of our past, but we still need heroes.
