Residents will have the opportunity to enjoy a round of golf while raising money for a good cause.
Vaughn Regional Medical Center is hosting their third annual Hope for a Cure Golf Tournament March 19 at the Valley Grande Golf Course. Profits from the 3-person scramble tournament will benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, which raises money to fight cancer through research, treatment and support.
“Our goal is to help cancer patients get to their next birthday,” Vaughn Regional Medical Center radiographer Dr. Alvin Craig said.
The registration cost is $70 per player or $210 for a 3-person team. Registration begins at 11 a.m. with the tournament beginning at 1 p.m.
Normally the tournament attracts more than 60 players, Craig said.
In the past, the group has been able as much as $10,000. This year the group has set their hopes high with a goal of $20,000.
The money funds a trip and stay at the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge in Birmingham, which is where cancer patients receive treatment and emotional support.
“We normally have a great turn out,” Craig said. “They love our tournament.”
Vaughn Regional Medical Center is also accepting donations and sponsors. Hole sponsorships are $150.
First, second and third place winners will receive cash prizes. Door prizes will also be available.
