State Rep. Darrio Melton, D-Selma, has been honored as one of the top 20 individuals under 40 in the Who’s Who in Black Alabama.
The book, released Feb. 21, highlighted the next generation of leaders by telling the stories of 20 living legends, business owners and community leaders.
“It’s truly an honor to be recognized among such accomplished colleagues,” Melton said. “It’s great to be in the company of men and women eompowered to be voices for change in the next generation.”
Among the others honored were Dr. Corey L. Hartman, the founder and medical director of the Skin Wellness Center of Alabama, Ammie Morgan, 2012 Miss Wheelchair Alabama-USA and Cedric DeJuan Sparks, Senior Executive Director for the Division of Youth Services in the City of Birmingham Mayor’s Office.
“Coming together to celebrate our achievements is great, but we must discern how we can work together to move forward as a community. There are big issues to address and we must address them together,” Melton said.
