Duck Dynasty star set for Sunday

After months of preparing and promoting, the event featuring A&E’s Duck Dynasty star Jase Robertson is now just days away.

Robertson will be the featured speaker during Sunday’s event at Memorial Stadium, scheduled from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Gates open at noon.

For many, Robertson’s popularity is just part of the event’s draw, but for most, it’s the Christian message Robertson will deliver.

“I have been following Phil Robertson for more than 20 years, since Duck Men I and have laughed my toes off from way back when,” Dr. Park Chittom II said. “I’m glad to see someone stand up for their faith that’s not your stereotypical religious leader.”

General admission tickets are $35, and they are only available online at ticketalternative.com.

A handful of $1,000 meet-and-greet tickets, which allow people to meet Robertson prior to the service and get a picture with him, are also available. People can also purchase $100 sponsorship tickets, which would put seat buyers on the infield in front of the stage.

Meadowview Christian headmaster Renee Callen said ticket sales are picking up quickly with as many as 100 being sold each day.

Furniss, Vaughan & Company accountant Mark Mason, who purchased a sponsorship ticket, said he has been a big Duck Dynasty fan since the show began.

“I was surprised and excited to know that Jase Robertson would be in Selma,” Mason said. “I look forward to hearing his message and his personal testimony.”

Speir Land Company owner Harold Speir, who purchased sponsor tickets, plans to attend to support the Robertson family in their stand for Christian values. He’s hoping the spiritual message will benefit Selma.

“I plan to attend the event, because it is a Christian event,” Speir said. “I hope this will help the city of Selma to come closer to Christ.”

The service will include a Christian message from Robertson, food vendors and performances from local Christian groups. During the ceremony, Meadowview students will collect donations for Alabama Teen Challenge, Selma-Dallas Save-A-Life and Integrity Worldwide.
