W. Frank Meigs

W. Frank Meigs, beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, age 85, passed away on February 5, 2014 after a brief illness. He was born in Brent, Alabama to the late Ellen Moore and Willie Fulton Meigs on June 30, 1928. “Papa” is survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Louise Smith Meigs and daughters, Peggy Allison (Louis), Merry Dykes (John), KK Fantasia (Gene), Jackie Hicks (Terry), and grandchildren, Shannon Chandler (Todd), Merianna Wilkerson (Jeff), Miah Groves, Katie, Jake, and Ben Fantasia, Kincey Ribeiro (Eduardo), Meigs Hicks, and great-grandchildren, Shelby, Ramsey, and Abby Chandler, Wes Groves, Raymond Seymore. He is also survived by his special friend, Gypsy, his four month old Jack Russell. Frank served in the U. S. Navy during WWII onboard the AK81 USS Valencia. He later served in the U. S. Army, stationed in Alexandra, Virginia and returned to Selma where he worked with his father and served as vice-president of Farmers Truck and Tractor Company. After the closing of Farmers Truck he worked with the Selma Housing Authority. Frank was a member of the First Baptist Church of Selma. He was an Eagle Scout and served as Scout Master of Troop 28. He helped charter and served as president of the Fairview Civitan Club, Central Alabama Horseman Association, and Selma Kennel Club. He was a founding member of Fairview Community Center. Papa had many interests and hobbies. There were always horses in the barn as well as many different breeds of chickens. He also raised homing pigeons, dogs, and pygmy goats. He loved life and will be forever remembered and dearly missed by his family and friends whom he treasured. The family extends their sincere gratitude and heartfelt thanks to the staff of Park Place Nursing Home for their wonderful care. The family will gather for a private memorial service at “Rabbit Hill” in Summerfield. In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions in memory of Papa may be directed to the Selma Animal Shelter.
