College workshop to give students options

High school students interested in what’s next for them after graduation will have a chance to learn about several options during the return of an annual workshop next week at Selma’s Carl C. Morgan Convention Center.
The 6th annual Gearing Up For College Workshop will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Corey Bowie, who is the Adult Education Advisor at Wallace Community, said the event would feature information about numerous options for the students, not just college.
“I am a realist and I realize not everybody is going to go to college,” Bowie said. “That’s why we’ll have people speaking about how to prepare for the workforce. They’ll talk about dressing for success, how to prepare for a job and how to build an award-winning resume.”
Bowie said two $500 scholarships would be awarded that night in honor of past city council president Dr. Geraldine Allen and recent shooting victim Alexis Hunter.
To win either scholarship, students must attend the event with a parent, and they must also bring their transcript.
