Department of Revenue extends registration, tax payments

Motor vehicle registration, renewal, transfer and vehicle property tax payment deadlines for January have been extended through Feb. 10.

Alabama vehicle owners, whose registration month is January, will not be subject to delinquent penalties for late registration or late payment of vehicle property tax, if registration is completed by Feb. 10, according to an Alabama Department of Revenue news release. The release says the deadline was extended because many county offices closed during the recent winter weather.

The extension applies to motor vehicle registrations and renewals for Alabama-based vehicles registered pursuant to the International Registration Plan and payment of property taxes on the IRP vehicles. The extension also applies to individuals who have recently purchased or acquired a vehicle but not registered it within the 20-day registration period, falling during January.
