Morgan Academy captured a little redemption Friday night in a 68-62 comeback victory over Monroe Academy.
The Senators trailed 56-43 after the third quarter but forced 12 turnovers in the final quarter to storm back for a win.
Morgan had been in the complete opposite situation Tuesday night against Fort Dale, leading by ten points with 1:58 left to play.
The Senators ended up losing the game in double overtime, which allowed Fort Dale to clinch the regular season area title.
Friday had a different ending.
Dalton Lee led Morgan with 25 points and seven rebounds and Connor Henderson scored 20 points and added eight rebounds. Ford Manderson was the third Senator in double digit scoring with 17 points.
Manderson scored 11 of his 17 points in the fourth quarter.
The key to Morgan’s improbable comeback Friday might have been the free throw line.
The Senators made eight of ten free throw attempts in the fourth quarter. Of course, defense played an important role too.
The Senators outscored Monroe 25-6 in the final quarter and forced eight of their twelve fourth quarter steals in the final four minutes of the game.
Morgan is the No. 2 seed in their area. The Senators will play Bessemer Academy Thursday. Jan. 30 in the regional tournament.
The Senators’ junior varsity boys and girls teams also won their games Friday night.
