Mary Kathryn Irwin, 60, a resident of Dothan peacefully passed away Saturday, January 18, 2014 at Southeast Alabama Medical Center surrounded by her loved ones.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Monday, January 20, 2014 at Sunset Funeral Home with Rev. Cecil Williamson officiating. Burial will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, January 21, 2014 at Valley Creek Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Selma, AL. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 pm prior to the service on Monday.
Mrs. Irwin was born June 11, 1953 in Selma, AL to the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Leon Coleman, Sr. Mrs. Irwin was in the 1st graduating class of Morgan Academy in 1971 in Selma, AL and a Magna Cum Laude graduate of Troy University in 1975. She was an art instructor at Northside Methodist Academy from 1988-2008 and was a lifelong artist and educator. She found great enjoyment in teaching her grandchildren. Mrs. Irwin was a former member of Southside Baptist Church in Dothan and a current member of Valley Creek Presbyterian Church in Selma.
Survivors include her husband Edward Irwin of Dothan; daughters, Carrie Hughes (Jeremy) of Deatsville, Margaret Stuart (Brian) of Daphne, Kathryn Piburn (Lee) of Spanish Fort, and Patricia Johnson (David) of Spanish Fort; grandchildren, Emma Stuart, Kaylee Hughes, and Ethan and Mason Piburn; her brother Thomas Coleman, Jr. (Ruth); an aunt and uncle Mr. and Mrs. L.B. Coleman; a lifelong friend Deloris Curtain.
