More than two weeks after an elderly Selma man was shot dead while attempting to enter his home, authorities are still searching for one of his two attackers.
Selma resident Willie “Dusty” Berry, 77, died as the results of gunshot wounds suffered during an attempted robbery as he returned to his home at Highland View condominiums in the 2700 block of North Broad Street on the evening of Dec. 10.
During the attack, Berry was able to use his own weapon, firing one shot and killing one of his attackers, Lester Jones Jr. of Orrville, while a second suspect fled the scene.
Lt. Curtis Muhannad with the Selma Police Department said Friday the department is still following all leads, but the pace of information from the public has slowed since they day of the attack.
“At this moment there are no new updates in this case,” Muhannad said. “It has kind of died down, but based on what we have, we are still trying to nail down possible suspects.”
Muhannad said the department is still investigating two men whose names surfaced multiple times during statements by members of the public.
“We are still looking into the same two men to get probable cause to bring them in,” Muhannad said. “And once we get that we will go from there with the case.”
Muhannad urges anyone with information about the crime or the suspects to call the Selma Police Department.
