Alton Mathew Oglesby

Alton Mathew Oglesby, age 94 of Gallion, Alabama passed away on December 6, 2013. He was a native of Perry County, Alabama.

He was a World War II veteran, served three years overseas. He has a Purple Heart, as well as a Bronze Star along with numerous other medals.

Prior to retiring, he raised chickens for Hickman Hatchery.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Vennie Lois Harris Oglesby, and two grandchildren, Shawn Oglesby and Billy Ray Smith.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 8 at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Valley United Methodist Church with burial in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Rev. Donald Smith officiated.

Pallbearers were Paul Oglesby, Jerry Oglesby, Jessie Oglesby, Darrin Flowers, Bo Hoggle, Mike Jones and Frank Lavender. He is survived by three daughters Frances Smith Spidle, Elizabeth Rayford (Mickey) and Christine Oglesby (William); six sons Buddy Oglesby (Pattie), Nolly Oglesby (Hilda), R.C. Oglesby (Delaine), Daniel Oglesby (Sherry), Ronald Oglesby (Pat) and Norman Oglesby (Diane); 15 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Funeral directed by Kirk Funeral Home of Demopolis.

Visitation will be held at the church from 1 until 2 p.m. Sunday.
