Take time to truly celebrate Thanksgiving

I am probably one of few people who would rather not dive into Christmas immediately after Halloween.
For me, that time in-between is not just time to anticipate upcoming Christmas Eve and Day, but also time to wrap my mind around the delicious feast, time with family and friend and gratefulness that come with Thanksgiving Day. I just do not understand why so many are willing to overlook that winning-combination every year.
I understand Thanksgiving may not seem as appealing as the other holidays, because it does not come with presents or free candy, but that is why I love it.
For at least one day of the year, people are asked to be grateful for what they do have instead of dwelling on what they do not.
Society has conditioned us to always desire something we do not have.
In some cases, that idea is healthy. It can motivate us to reach our dreams, lead us to ideas and concepts that can drive progression, encourage people be the best they can possible be.
In other instances, that same thought can lead to greed.
The Webster Dictionary defines greed as “a selfish and excessive desire for more of something than is needed.”
Greed is such an ugly characteristic for an individual to adopt. It makes people willing to hurt others in order to fulfill their own selfish desires. It has the power to leave an individual unsatisfied, which would be a dreadful feeling for anyone.
Most perceive greed as one of the deadly sins they will never adopt, but do not realize being ungrateful brings about greed.
When you do not appreciate what you already have, you began to always yearn for more to the point it becomes greed.
Many of us find ourselves in situations that make us feel as though there is nothing left to appreciate, but that is not the case. No matter your circumstance, there is always something you can appreciate in your life.
There is normally something people overlook, thinking they are entitled to it for whatever reason.
For instance, many individuals do not really take the time to consider how much their parents have done for them throughout their lifetime. They are too busy feeling entitled to the clothes, food, support, encouragement and love their parents provide daily.
Not only is it important for you to recognize the many blessings in your life, it is also essential to express your appreciation for those positivity happening in your life to the people responsible for making it happen.
Although everyone may not voice it, not one wants their efforts to go unnoticed. People sacrifice more than you know to accomplish the little or major things in your life that make you happy.
Every year, I hope people will apply the message of Thanksgiving with them all year long. If we were able to do such a thing, we would be more content with our lives.
It’s beautiful to celebrate a holiday that spreads so much positivity amongst the world.
