Medicare may be just a click away.
The Alabama-Tombigbee Regional Commission will have Medicare open enrollment an open enrollment event at Wallace Community College on Monday, Nov. 25. Enrollment will also be held at the Perry County Health Department and the Uniontown Senior Center on Tuesday, Nov. 26. The Wallace Community College enrollment event will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Uniontown enrollment will be from 9 a.m. to noon and the Perry County enrollment event will be 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Attendees should bring prescription medicine containers, social security cards, Medicare and other health prescription cards, date of birth and income information.
The event will allow Black Belt residents to sign up for Medicare and evaluate plan options, ATRC insurance program coordinator Clayton Davis said.
“The plans are changing; a lot of plans have reduced prices but some went way up,” Davis said. “Even people that are currently satisfied may find that their plan is changing its price structure for 2014.”
He said attendees could complete the enrollment process for Medicaid at the events.
“The computer system with Medicare allows us to enroll people on the spot,” he said. “They don’t have to call someone and be put on hold. Without knowing how to use the Medicare computer system, I don’t know how anyone could do it alone.”
Incomes below $1,456.25 for a one-person household and $1,958.75 for a two-person household are eligible for Medicare, according to a press release. Income limits for larger families are increased $502 monthly for each additional person.
