Despite being without two key players, the Wilcox Central Jaguars squeaked out a 54-53 victory over the Southside Panthers.
The Panthers seemed to control the game and led for the entire first half, but three minutes into the second half Wilcox tied the game at 28. The teams fought back and forth in the fourth quarter, but a series of made free throws sealed the game for Wilcox.
Southside Coach Cedric Brown said his team played great in the loss and showed promise for the rest of the season.
“Man, I’m just excited,” Brown said. “We fought hard to the end. There are some little things, like taking care of the ball and boxing out, that we need to work on but I think we have a great team this year.”
