More events needed to spotlight Craig Field’s importance

It is time we congratulate and thank those responsible for organizing the annual Aviation Day at Craig Field.
The event, aimed at expanding the community’s understanding of what Craig Field has to offer and enhancing the area’s appreciation of aviation-related industries, was a great success and built off last year’s successful inaugural event.
It is sad to say that many who live in Selma and Dallas County have a less than working knowledge of the overall economic impact Craig Field provides to the area.
While it no longer has the impact the facility did when it was a bustling Air Force base, it is a major player in the area’s economic infrastructure and that influence seems to grow each day.
Home to a number of industries and a runway of landing everything from a Piper Cub to a Boeing 747, Craig Field is more than you might now.
While we applaud organizers for a successful Aviation Day, we encourage Craig Field leaders to continue to find ways to engage and educate the community on what is happening at Craig Field.
