Urban Studio is returning to ArtsRevive Thursday to present more detailed and developed revitalization plans for Selma.
After further investigation of the revitalizations plans produced in early October, Urban Studio, which is comprised of fourth year and thesis level Auburn University architecture students, will be presenting more developed version of the their plans for Selma at Arts Revive Nov. 7 at 6 p.m.
“We are going to be talking about the development of some of the ideas that were a part of out original workshop in October,” Dr. Cheryl Morgan, the executive director of Urban Studio, said. “We will be asking the community for their input on the evolution of those ideas.”
Morgan said the group’s responsibility is to provide Selma with the tools to complete the project, and it’s Selma responsibility to build on the project.
“We are imposing things we think will help in the further revitalization downtown,” Lockett said. “Our job is to give you a new tool. Everybody works together.”
Morgan said students plan to return with the same can-do positive idea they had in October.
“We will continue to have that level of excitement for what we are talking about,” she said.
Revitalizations discussed at the original workshop included repurposing buildings from Broad Street to Martin Luther King Street on Water Avenue, revamping the third tier down of Songs of Selma Park to make it accessible and using some of Selma’s huge sidewalks as patio spaces for outdoor dining establishments.
Morgan encourages the community to attend Thursday and share their ideas for revitalization.
