Robert Roy “R.R.” Moore, Jr., 84, of Dothan passed away Saturday, October 26, 2013 at Extendicare Health and Rehab.

Graveside services will be 11am Friday, November 1, 2013 at New Live Oak Cemetery in Selma, AL with Rev. David Powell officiating. Military honors will be Friday at 5 pm in Sunset Memorial Park with a Celebration of Life following in the Sunset Reception Center. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Dothan Area Botanical Gardens, 5130 Headland Ave., Dothan, AL, 36303.

Mr. Moore was born November 30, 1928 in Selma, AL to the late Robert and Missie Moore. Following his high school graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served his country in WWII. After the war he returned to Alabama and attended Auburn University where he was active in ROTC. While attending Auburn he was again called to serve his country in the U.S. Army as a lieutenant in the Korean War. After his tour in Korea he was stationed in Hawaii where he met and married the love of his life, Lucille Santos in 1955. They returned to Alabama where he was able to finish his degree at Auburn University in 1956 and celebrate the birth of their son, Robert Roy Moore, III. Following graduation from Auburn they settled in California where they celebrated the birth of their daughter Allison Moore Stewart. Robert and Lucille loved to travel and visited more than 50 countries and most of the 50 states during their 51 years of marriage. Mr. Moore was a very active supporter of the community, he was a member of the Rotary Club, in which he was a Paul Harris Award recipient plus 4, a member of the Masons, a member of the Shriners, and a member of the Elks Club. He was a retired educator and school administrator, and attained the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army.

Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his parents Robert Roy Moore and Ida Susan “Missie” Moore; his wife Lucille Moore; and a sister Dorothy “Dottie” Cooke.

Survivors include his daughter Allison Stewart; his son Robert Roy Moore, III; grandchildren, Janina, Sarah, Jarrod, Madelyn, and Jennifer; his brother Dr. Arthur (Amelia) Moore; a sister Susie Bayne; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
