PLANTERSVILLE — A suspect, described as a white male in his 60’s, robbed the United States Post Office in Plantersville Wednesday.

Sgt. John Hatfield with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department, said the department was working with the United States Postal Service on the investigation, which began before noon after a female employee at the post office called 911 reporting the robbery.

By late Wednesday, Hatfield said the search for a suspect was already narrowing.

“We are still working leads, and we do have a possible suspect, but we aren’t ready to release more information at this point,” Hatfield said.

According to Hatfield, the robbery — during which the suspect made off with an undisclosed amount of money — had left the employee shaken.

“He walked in, and she didn’t ever see a gun, but he implied he had one, and he told her it was a robbery and to get the money out of the cash drawer,” Hatfield said.

Authorities were still working to determine how the suspect had arrived and then departed from the post office.

“He walked up, but we are working at this time trying to find out if he parked a car down the road or how he got there,” Hatfield said.

Frank Dyer, postal inspector with the United States Postal Service, said the female employee was not injured during the robbery.

A half dozen law enforcement vehicles, both marked and unmarked, remained parked around the small brick structure for the majority of the afternoon as the scene was thoroughly examined.
