One day after both teams advanced into their regional tournaments, Morgan Academy and Meadowview Christian lost in their opening games on Tuesday and were eliminated from postseason play, just one win shy of the AISA final four.

Meadowview Christian lost to Bessemer Academy in four sets at Southern Academy, ending any hopes the Trojans had of winning their first state championship in volleyball.

The Senators seemed to be playing their best volleyball of the season and in the fifth set of a back and forth match with Kingwood Christian, Morgan seemed to have their opponents on the ropes. The Senators led the final set 9-3, but Kingwood stormed back for a 15-13 victory to end Morgan Academy’s hopes of reaching the final four.

“It was really one of the toughest games I’ve ever coached because the emotions were so high,” Morgan Academy head coach Jennifer Moore said. “It was a very tough game.”

Moore said that after the game her team was upset, but she told them to look at the season as a whole and remember what they accomplished.

“I told them not to let one day be what they took away from the season,” Moore said. “I told all the seniors don’t let one day judge all the work you’ve put in over the last few years. Take all the good times and the wins and everything that you enjoyed about it.”
