Dixie Flips place well in Festival of Stars

Selma’s only competitive gymnastics team, the Dixie Flips, traveled to Montgomery on Sept. 21 and 22 to compete at United GymStars Festival of Stars.

First to compete were the level 2s. In the Jr. A division, Jaden McGee tied for first on vault with an 8.9, placed second on bars with a 7.8, fifth on beam, tied for third on floor with an 8.5 and fourth all around. Taylor Roberts placed fifth on vault with an 8.3, fifth on bars, seventh on beam, seventh on floor and fifth all around. Brooke Egbert placed sixth on vault, sixth on bars, fourth on beam, won floor with an 8.8 and sixth all around. Cameran Duncan tied for sixth on vault, seventh on bars, sixth on beam, fifth on floor and seventh all around. These girls range in age from 5 to 7-years-old.

In the Jr. B division Andee Fancher placed eighth on vault, fifth on bars, fifth on beam, eighth on floor and fifth all around. Anna Grace Small tied for sixth on vault, seventh on bars, fourth on beam, fifth on floor with a 9.0 and sixth all around. McCann Perkins placed second on vault with an 8.8, sixth on bars, seventh on beam, seventh on floor and seventh all around. Kennan Lee McHugh tied her teammate for sixth on vault, placed eighth on bars, sixth on beam, fourth on floor and eighth all around.

All level 2 gymnast who were competing in their second meet improved in at least one event. They also brought home the second place team award.

In the level 3 competition, Evey Craig placed eleventh on vault, bars and beam, ninth on floor and eleventh all around. Haley Smitherman placed eleventh on vault, twelfth on bars, tenth on beam, sixth on floor and eleventh all around.

Level’s 4 and 5 competed on Sept. 22. In the level 4 competition, Kaileigh Harrison placed tenth on vault, second on bars with a score of 8.250, ninth on beam, and tied her teammate for second on floor with an 8.6, and sixth all around. Erin Odom placed ninth on vault, ninth on bars, tenth on beam, second on floor and ninth all around.

Our only level 5 competing was Sarah Lloyd Free. She took first place in all events and first place all around.

Coach Tracey Craig was very proud of the improvements made by the team, but plans to work to make even greater improvements by the next meet which will be in Tuscaloosa in October.
