With a little more than six months to go, organizers with the Alabama River Chili Cookoff announced Wednesday that Moore-Stewart Ford had agreed once again to be the event’s title sponsore.
The cookoff, which is scheduled for Thursday, March 14. The event, which is organized by Leadership Selma-Dallas County Class XVIII, will once again be held on Water Avenue in historic downtown Selma.
“We had such a great time during last year’s cookoff that we really wanted to be a part of it again,” Moore-Stewart’s Barry Parker said. “The cookoff is a great community event and the money raised helps out charities at home. We’re excited about seeing just how big this next cookoff could be.”
The event is designed as a fundraiser for a selected charity each year. In 2011, the inaugural event raised $5,000 for the Salvation Army. In 2012, $6,000 was raised for the Dallas County Family Resource Center.
“We are starting to say that the third year will be the charm,” organizing committee co-chair Leslie Free said. “We were thrilled to learn that Moore-Stewart has signed back on as our title sponsor. They were great last year and I can’t wait to see what cars they bring downtown again.”
Free said the committee has started their regular planning meetnigs for the 2014 Alabama River Chili Cookoff and will announce in the next few weeks the charity that will receive the event’s proceeds. Sponsorship letters will also be mailed soon.
