The Times-Journal announced the addition of Jay Sowers to the newspaper’s newsroom this week.
Sowers, a native of Delaware, Ohio, joins the Times-Journal as a staff writer. Most recently, Sowers worked as a photographer and writer at the Times-Journal’s sister newspaper, The Natchez (Miss.) Democrat.
Sowers began work Tuesday.
“I’m excited to tell the story of Selma and Dallas County through photos and stories,” Sowers said. “Selma is a town I have always wanted to visit, so having the opportunity to live here and tell the stories of the people in this great community is something I am very thankful for.”
Sowers, who received a photojournalism degree from Ball State University in Muncie, Ind., began his career working at the Lima News in Lima, Ohio before moving to Natchez, Miss.
“Jay is tremendously talented, both in his photography and his story telling,” Times-Journal editor Tim Reeves said. “I think our readers will be pleased by the work he produces and what he brings to the newspaper and our community.”
To contact Sowers, you can reach him by email at jay.sowers@selmatimesjournal.com or by phone at (334) 410-1716.
“Working in this field has given me an opportunity to meet countless great and interesting people and tell their stories,” Sowers said. “I look forward to doing more of that here in Selma and Dallas County.”
