The Selma City Schools Athletic Department is holding a meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday night for all parents and students that will play a sport this year at Selma High School and R. B. Hudson Middle School.
Selma High School Athletic Director Patrick Evans said there will be three points of emphasis for the meeting: academics, the responsibilities of coaches, and an overview of a parent’s role in the program.
“It is very important for each parent that has a student athlete that is going to play any sport in Selma city schools that they attend,” Evans said. “Do not send a representative, do not send a student, but attend this meeting.”
Each student will receive a student athletic handbook that must be signed by the student athlete and the parent stating they were at the meeting and understand Selma’s athletic policies. Evans said the meeting will also give parents an overview of how they can assist the program.
“We will give the parents an overview of what their role is as it plays to the success of their students as well as the success of our program,” Evans said.
The meeting will also go over the academic expectations of student athletes, Evans said. He said the meeting will stress how important academics are for student athletes.
