Nell Calhoun Edwards, age 89, resident of Selma, passed away at her home on Friday, August

9, 2013 at Cedar Lane.

She was born in Montgomery on January 29, 1923 to David Young Calhoun and Mattie Cook Calhoun of Burkville, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, George Littleton Edwards, and her sisters, Alice Calhoun Hardy (Ralph), and Mary Charles Calhoun Sullivan McNeill (David).

She is survived by her daughters, Joy Edwards Green (Kincey) of Selma, Alice Edwards Yarbrough (Cecil) of Auburn, and Lee Anne Edwards Odom (Burt) of Coppell, TX, her grandchildren, Elizabeth Yarbrough Ellis (Robert) of Dallas, TX, Alice Anne Yarbrough Diehl (Josh) of Santa Rosa, FL, Katherine Green Robertson (Ryan) of Birmingham, James Littleton Odom, La Mirada CA, Mary Burton Odom, Waco, TX, William Chapman Odom and Sellers McLeod Odom, Coppell TX, and her great grandchildren, Robert McLeod Ellis, Camille Callaway Ellis and Lillian Katherine Diehl. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Mary Sue Edwards Gillespie of Dallas, TX, and nieces, Martha Grace Hardy Washington of Richmond, VA, Alice Hardy Payne of Birmingham, and nephews, Ralph Moss Hardy, Jr. of Belize, George Arthur Sullivan, Hayneville, Charles Samuel Sullivan, Jackson, and William Andrew Sullivan,

Chelsea.

She attended public school in Lowndes County. She graduated from Huntingdon College with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught the 5th grade at Southside Elementary for 17 years, then taught 5th grade at Morgan Academy for more than 25 years until her retirement. She loved teaching children including 63 consecutive years of teaching adult Sunday School at Shiloh Baptist Church for which she was honored on April 28, 2013. She was a loving and devoted member of the church and served faithfully throughout her life.

The service will be at Shiloh Baptist Church in Sardis, on Sunday, August 11, 2013 at 2:30 PM, with visitation to follow. Active pallbearers for a private interment in New Live Oak Cemetery will be Ralph Moss Hardy, Jr.,George Arthur Sullivan, Charles Samuel Sullivan, William Andrew Sullivan,

Robert Elliot Ellis, Ryan Christopher Robertson, Joshua Christian Diehl,James Littleton Odom, and William Chapman Odom.

Dr. William H. Gardner will be conducting the service.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Shiloh Baptist Church are invited.
