Virginia Ann Travis, 73, died August 7, 2013 at her residence in the Terry’s Creek Community of Pike County. She was born August 9, 1940 in Jackson, MS. She was the daughter of Malcolm and Virgie Gill Graham. She was retired from Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center where she was a unit secretary for 22 years. She was a longtime active member of Terry’s Creek Baptist Church where she served on numerous committees. She loved doing research and was one of the co-authors of the history of Terry’s Creek Baptist Church and the Terry’s Creek community. She loved working outdoors and especially in her yard and always had projects going. She loved her family and friends and was always there when people needed a helping hand.
She is preceded in death by her parents; one son, Michael C. “Mike” Travis
She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charles Travis of Terry’s Creek; one son, Steve Travis of Terry’s Creek; one daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Don Jones of Selma, AL; one sister, Carolyn Thornton of Ponchatoula, LA; her sister-in-law, Barbara Travis of Pass Christian, MS; her special grandson, Travis Christopher Jones of Selma, AL and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation is Friday at Terry’s Creek Baptist Church from 5PM until 8PM and Saturday from 12noon until services at 2PM with Rev. LaVerne Summerlin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Home in McComb.
Pallbearers will be Todd Thornton, Zachary Thornton, Jeff Puls, Brad Blades, Jeremy Greer and Russell Byrd. Honorary pallbearer will be Joshua Puls.
