Shooting suspect turns himself in to police

A 16-year-old male from Pennsylvania turned himself into the Selma Police Department Friday after police were searching for him in connection to an attempted murder case.
Leon Devon Ellis, a black male of Selma, turned himself in to the SPD and was escorted by legal counsel. Ellis and his uncle, 55-year-old Nelson Ellis, are wanted in connection of the shooting of a Selma resident that occurred Thursday, July 25 at 7:45 a.m. on the 1600 block of Vickery Street. Police believe the two suspects knew the victim.
Details surrounding the shooting are unavailable as the case is still under investigation, but police did confirm the victim suffered minor injuries and is in stable condition. The victim was treated at Vaughan Regional Medical Center.
Leon Ellis turned himself in after police believed he and Nelson fled to the Birmingham-Hoover area.
Nelson is still, “on the run,” according to a statement by the SPD Monday.
Leon Ellis is charged with attempted murder and two counts of reckless endangerment. He is currently in the Dallas County Jail with a bond totaling $262,000.
