Recent shootings leave fear in community

Thursday’s shootings on L.L. Anderson Avenue, paired with Saturday’s fatal shooting on King Street, has left a feeling of both fear and uneasiness in the community. With suspects still at large in both cases, we are counting on the Selma Police Department and community members to identify, and bring to justice these dangerous individuals.
And although little information has been made available in regards to the whereabouts of these suspects, we commend the police department for arriving to both scenes in a timely manner. Now more than ever, we rely on our local law enforcement to identify these suspects.
Selma Chief of Police William T. Riley said Saturday that dangerous behavior like this will be not be tolerated in Selma, and we couldn’t agree with him more.
We deserve safe streets where our children can play without fear of random shootings. We deserve a community where residents can open their front door without hesitation. We deserve a community where armed dangerous individuals are a thing of television shows and movies — not a reality.
If anyone has any information regarding either of these cases, we encourage them to contact the Selma Police Department or Crimestoppers at 1-866-44-CRIME immediately.
