VALLEY GRANDE — Although it is more than a month away, Valley Grande City Council members are already planning on hosting another spectacular Independence Day Celebration.
Beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 4 near the city’s walking trails, the celebration will feature vendors, games for children and even a dunking booth and ice cream contest.
Valley Grande Mayor Wayne Labbe said he aims to offer a family-friendly environment for residents to come out and enjoy.
“Mostly, we want our Independence Day celebration to be geared toward kids with the games and the different activities they can do,” Labbe said.
One specific activity Labbe said he is excited to offer is the dunking booth, which all residents can participate in.
“A lot of the city council members and several local coaches, they usually volunteer because the students like to take a shot at them,” he said. “I imagine I’ll be sitting on the bench at some point getting dunked.”
To top off the night, the city will hold a fireworks finale at 9 p.m., lighting up the Valley Grande sky —making it “simply beautiful.”
“The fireworks show is usually the finale of the night — that’s how we’ll top it off,” Labbe said. “We’re hoping as many residents as possible can come out and enjoy the program and celebrate Independence Day. It’ll just be a fun time.”
There is no admission cost for the celebration.
