Georgene was a graduate of A.G. Parrish High School and attended Alabama College for Women, now known as University of Montevallo. Georgene had many jobs as secretary and receptionist for doctors, bankers, United Way, Church Street Methodist and the Auburn Extension Service. She said she had never met a job she didn’t like. Her cheerful, bubbly, effervescent personality made her as asset to any business.

Georgene was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed (in her own words) “GOING”. Georgene was always on “The Go”. She loved to travel even if only to Montgomery. Some of her friends called her “The Roadrunner”. She loved her church and was a lifelong member of Church Street United Methodist Church. One of her favorite sayings was “The Lord respects me when I Work- But he loves me when I sing.” She will be remembered by her family and friends for her sweet spirit filled with laughter and singing and a willingness to help others. The poem, After Glow expresses her wishes for her family and friends:

I’d like the memory of me to be a happy one,

I’d like to leave an afterglow of smiles when life is done.

I’d like to leave an echo whispering softly down the ways,

Of happy times and laughing times and bright and sunny days.

I’d like the tears of those who grieve, to dry before the sun

Of happy memories that I leave, when my life is done.

Visitation will be at Church Street United Methodist Church on Wednesday May 22, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with burial following in New Live Oak Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. with Dr. Jerry Light officiating and Lawrence Brown-Service Funeral Home directing.

The family would like to thank the staff of Cedar Hill Assisted Living for providing her with all the love and care she needed for the past 3 years. It became her home and family. Aseracare Hospice has also been an enormous help and comfort for her and the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Selma Animal Shelter, P.O Box 591 Selma, Al 36702-0591 or a charity of their choice.
