Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Melville Gilmer, Jr. of Selma announce the engagement of their daughter, Catherine Martin to Brandon Russell Powell, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Jay Powell of Union, Kentucky.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mrs. Joseph Melville Gilmer, Sr. and the late Mr. Gilmer of Selma and Mrs. Charles Smith Chisolm and the late Mr. Chisolm of Lookout Mountain, Tennessee.

Miss Gilmer is a 2005 graduate and valedictorian of John Tyler Morgan Academy and a 2009 magna cum laude graduate of Auburn University with a Bachelor of Arts in Communication. She is currently employed by Cru in Campus Ministry at Walt Disney World in Orlando.

The prospective bridegroom is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. John Boyd Powell of Independence, Kentucky and Mrs. Harold Ray Clayton and the late Mr. Clayton of Independence, Kentucky.

Mr. Powell is a 2005 graduate of Larry A. Ryle High School and a 2009 cum laude graduate of Eastern Kentucky University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Electronic Networking. He is currently employed by Cru Technology in Orlando, Florida.

The wedding will take place on February 2, 2013 at Valley Creek Presbyterian Church in Selma, Alabama.
