ArtsRevive practicing for plays

ArtsRevive is preparing to get in the holiday spirit by hitting the stage.
Encore’s Off Broad Street Productions and ArtsRevive will present Christmas Shorts at Selma’s Performing Arts Centre on Dec. 14, 15 and 16.
Christmas shorts will include the collection of comedies, “Going Home,” “The Christmas Witch,” “Xmas Cards” and “Nativity,” which center around seasonal themes of family, unexpected guests, Christmas cards and the nativity.
Play director Cindy Stoudenmire said the shorts will offer audiences a variety of plays instead of one.
“This year’s Christmas play offers something funny as usual but also very different,” Stoudenmire said. “Rather than one play in several scenes, we’re performing four separate skits. The skits are each about 20 minutes long and involve miscues, chance meetings and a couple’s first Christmas away from home.”
Written by playwright Matt Hoverman in 2009, Christmas Shorts has gained popularity with regional theater groups.
“The cast may be small, but the hilarity is huge,” Stoudenmire said, “and we think the audience will enjoy the cleverly embedded reality in each situation.”
Performances begin at 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 14 and 15 and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16. Tickets are $10 at the door or can be purchased in advance at Truax & Co. and The Lily Pad on Broad Street and the Selma-Dallas County Centre for Commerce, 912 Selma Ave. The play is recommended for ages 15 and up.
The Performing Arts Centre is located at 1000 Selma Ave., just a block west of Broad Street.
