In less than an hour and a half, two different armed robberies took place in Selma Tuesday night.

According to the Selma Police Department the first robbery happened around 7:56 p.m. at the Motes Package Store on Highway 22 West.

“A lone, black male, dressed in all black clothing with his face and head covered entered the Motes Package Store with a handgun and demanded money from the cashier,” Lt. Johnny King, criminal investigations division/narcotics commander said.

The cashier wasn’t injured as the suspect stole an undetermined amount of money and fled the scene. Officers and detectives searched the area, but were unable to locate a suspect.

The package store captured the offense on their surveillance camera will provide the video to the Selma Police Department.

An hour later a second robbery occurred less than three miles away from the first. The police department said a single, black male dressed in all black entered The Selma Motel around 9 p.m. His face and head were covered.

“The subject was armed with a handgun and demanded money from the night clerk,” Lt. King said. “The subject robbed the business … and then he fled the scene running toward the rear door of the motel.”

The clerk was not injured, and the police department said they plan to receive video surveillance.

Both robberies are currently without suspects, and the Selma Police Department asks anyone with any information on these robberies to call the Selma Police Department Criminal Investigation Division at 334-874-2125 or CrimeStoppers at 1-866-44Crime or 1-866-442-7463.

Lt. King said he doesn’t think the two robberies are connected.

“We think it’s two different isolated incidents,” he said. “We’re following up on leads and we hope that [with the media coverage] hopefully the public will recognize them.”
